The writer Frederick Buechner once wrote: "Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid." Life on this planet is beautiful and terrible and so many things in between. The stories we tell about life here are powerful and meaningful. I strive to tell stories about the world around me — strange, beautiful and terrible as they might be — through my camera.

My name is Chris Hughes, and I'm a photojournalist and event photographer based in Louisville, Kentucky. I've had the privilege of covering everything from the Kentucky Oaks and Derby to the Dainty World Championships, the quirkiest little street festival you've ever seen. I've also covered the devastating UPS plane crash in 2025 and the widespread protests against the Trump Administration. My work has been featured in Louisville Public Media, the Lexington Herald-Leader, Kentucky Lantern and Spectrum News 1.
